We have a four-day holiday here because of the celebration of international labor day on May 1st. Most of my friends didn’t have any plans to travel out of Shantou so we decided to go on an all-girls day out downtown. We window-shopped, ate dumplings, bought sandals, and towards the end got caught in a downpour. We made it back on time for dinner with our Nutellla, which we were ecstatic to purchase in the local grocery store. Nutella in China! That’s like the greatest news, hyperbolically speaking.
Gaelle (top photo) always have to goof around when I take pictures of her. Ally (my ultimate frisbee partner) is always the sane one among the three of us.
I’m going to MISS them so much. They’re leaving for the US in July. So soon. For Gaelle who’s French, it’s time to leave China as she has been here for 7 years. Now she is off to take her Masters in Emory. Ally has to go back to school to take medicine and soon be a doctor.
And I am going to be stuck here for at least 4 months before I decide where to go to next.
Life is a endless journey of meetings and leave-takings.
I’ve collected so many faces and memories of the people I’ve bonded with throughout my life- journey. Ally and Gaelle will be part of that treasure chest. And if the universe is kind enough, I’d see them soon, sometime in the future.
